Thomas Miller manages and participates in a range of insurance-related undertakings in marine, transportation, professional services and other areas.

'Millers' have been established since the 19th century as managers of mutual insurance clubs. The leading client has long been the UK P&I Club, the world's largest insurer of third party liabilities for ocean-going ships.

The UK Defence Club covers shipowners' and charterers' costs and expenses in connection with uninsured disputes. As the world's largest war risks mutual, the Hellenic War Risks Club insures around three-quarters of all Greek-owned tonnage against war risks. The UK War Risks Club is the leading insurer in the field for British-owned ships.

The Through Transport Mutual Insurance Association provides liability and equipment insurance for the multimodal transport industry. The International Transport Intermediaries Club is the market leader for professional indemnity and public liability insurance for ship agents, brokers and managers.

Thomas Miller has interests in Dex, the hull insurance joint venture with Swiss Re; TRI-MEX International, which provides a transport tracking and monitoring service; and ShipServ, an e-commerce venture.

Separate indemnity insurance mutuals provide cover for barristers, solicitors, patent and trade mark agents.
