Samskip starts service between Zeebrugge and
Teesport
As from week 15, Samskip Multimodal Container
Logistics will start a new weekly service between Zeebrugge in Belgium and
Teesport in the United Kingdom. The Samskip vessels will leave Zeebrugge on
Friday evenings and will leave Teesport on Sunday afternoons for arrival back
in Zeebrugge on Mondays. Samskip will offer the service on a door to door basis
with its own fleet of equipment as well as on a quay to quay basis for
shippers' owned equipment.
According to Diederick Blom, Route Director at Samskip
Multimodal Container Logistics, the new sailing is a valuable addition to the
existing Samskip services to and from the United Kingdom.
"We are currently operating services between
the port of Rotterdam and the ports of Tilbury, Hull and Grangemouth. The port
of Teesport is centrally positioned between the ports of Grangemouth and Hull,
making it a logical addition to our network. By calling Teesport, we can
further maximize our geographical coverage in the United Kingdom and minimize
the road mileage for our customers. The Zeebrugge call will furthermore
increase our service coverage to the western region of Belgium, Northern France
and Southern Germany.
The 'end of the week' Friday evening
departure from Zeebrugge will offer shippers a time efficient transport
solution. We have decided to start with a weekly call but depending on customer
demand, we will look into the possibility of increasing the frequency."
Diederick Blom furthermore explains that customer
demand is one of the main drivers behind the new service to Teesport:
"We have experienced an increasing demand
for a Teesport call from our customers. Over the years Teesport has grown in
popularity and volume. The port offers excellent hinterland connections to the
Midlands, the North West and North East of England. Furthermore, Teesport has
successfully embraced the concept of port centric logistics, offering shippers
cost efficient warehousing and distribution facilities in addition to
traditional port services."
