Samskip improves service and appoints new agent in
Portugal
Europe's leading multimodal container operator
Samskip has appointed a new local agent in Portugal. In addition Samskip will
improve its services to and from Portugal. With the increasing volumes on the
existing Samskip services to and from this area, Samskip felt it appropriate to
review the set up in Portugal. As from 2 December, Marmedsa, one of Iberia's
major transport and logistics specialists, will be representing Samskip in
Portugal. As from this date Samskip will also work with an improved service
schedule. The new schedule offers a higher frequency as well as shorter transit
times on the services to and from Portugal.
Mr Jens Holger Nielsen, CEO of Samskip Multimodal
Container Logistics, explains the changes:
"The new service schedule brings our
customers multiple advantages. The frequency of the services to and from
Portugal will be increased from one to two sailings per week. The northbound
transit time to Tilbury, Hull and Grangemouth will become shorter, creating the
possibility to deliver the week after departure. The new service offers an
additional call at Southampton as well as improved southbound transit times
based on the Saturday sailing from Rotterdam. Overall, we can only regard the
changes as very positive."
About the appointment of the new local agent,
Mr Nielsen expressed his confidence that Samskip has found a well established
and experienced partner for the Portuguese market in Marmedsa:
"Marmedsa is one of the leading logistics service providers in Iberia.
It has an excellent reputation in the market. Marmedsa has a strong local
presence, market knowledge and is experienced in handling door-to-door
transports".
"In other parts of the Samskip group we have
already been working with Marmedsa for several years. In this cooperation we
have found that Marmedsa lives up to our and our customers' service standards
and expectations. Furthermore Marmedsa will have full access to the Samskip
transport operating IT-system. By using the same operation and communication
platform, Marmedsa will be able to deliver the same high customer service as
our own offices."
The President of Marmedsa, Antonio Campoy is confident
the cooperation with Samskip will be beneficial to both the companies:
"We have the local knowledge and experience
within the Iberian market to operate successfully in Portugal. Samskip provides
access to its extensive Pan European multimodal container network and its
experience in delivering door-door container transport within Europe is unique.
We are convinced that combined, these strengths will create opportunities to
further develop multimodal transport solutions between Portugal and the rest of
Europe."
