Samskip inks deal to acquire 50% of the Canadian
coldstore operator Bayside Food Terminal
Samskip has taken a 50% interest in
Canadian frozen food specialist Bayside Food Terminal, thus securing its first
coldstore capacity in North America. With this agreement, Samskip can further
improve the service it offers its customers with its steadily growing worldwide
reefer logistics network.
Bayside Food Terminal in Bayside, New
Brunswick, Canada has a coldstore capacity of 12,000 tonnes. It focuses mainly
on the frozen fish market ex Alaska and being situated close to the US border,
it is ideally located for supplying production plants in the region. The
terminal operation complies with all regulatory demands from the Canadian Food
Inspection Agency.
According to Johan Kloosterboer, Managing
Director, Samskip Coldstore Division, this deal complements the recent
establishment of several Samskip Reefer Logistics offices in the USA and
Canada. He commented:
"We are very pleased that Bayside Food
Terminal is now linked with the Samskip/Kloosterboer group. With this facility,
we are able to comply with requests received from many of our customers to
offer a reefer centre on the Canadian east coast. We look forward to expanding
business for these customers and to further improve our service offering to
them."
As well as coldstores, Bayside Food
Terminal also operates as a stevedoring company and ships' agency.
The address of Bayside Food Terminal is: Bayside
Food Terminal 136 Champlain Drive E5B 2Y2 Bayside, NB Canada
