Rickmers-Linie

Hamburg-based Rickmers-Linie provides a worldwide network of liner services for the transportation of breakbulk, project and heavy lift cargo. The company‘s roots date back more than 175 years and today Rickmers-Linie is one of the world‘s leading specialists in the global sea transportation of project and heavy-lift cargo. Rickmers-Linie currently owns or longterm charters 18 specialist vessels and spot charters others.

The company has recently upgraded its service network to India with the addition of new vessels. It is offering a monthly direct link both eastbound and westbound between Europe and India. Calls in Pakistan and the Middle East are possible on an inducement basis.

Being committed to offering its customers a wide range of services, Rickmers-Linie has joined forces with US-based Maersk Line Limited, Norfolk, VA, in September 2011 to also provide US-flag services.

Rickmers-Linie is renown for its innovative Round-the-World Pearl String Service with a unique concept offering fortnightly sailings, fast transit times and reliable schedules. With the establishment of its Pearl String Service, the company has revolutionized the shipment of heavy-lift and project cargoes by enabling customers to plan their cargo flows more easily. The Pearl String Service is served by nine new identical 30,000 dwt purpose-built Superflex Heavy Multi-Purpose Container (MPC) ships, which were designed primarily with project cargo in mind. The vessels are equipped with four large cranes, the two heaviest of which can be twinned for a lifting capacity of up to 640 tonnes. The main hatches are 32 m in length to allow long loads to be accommodated below deck. Adjustable tweendecks enhance space utilization for cargo with varied cargo height. Furthermore, a dehumidifying system controls the air in all holds, ensuring protection from condensation for all types of cargo.

In 2008, Rickmers-Linie started to invest in terminal facilities specialized in the handling of breakbulk, heavy-lift and project cargo. In Antwerp, a joint venture was formed with DP World and Conti-Lines, called DP World Breakbulk NV. Rickmers-Linie has a share of 20% in this joint venture. In Hamburg, Rickmers-Linie purchased a 25.1% stake in Wallmann & Co. These investments are part of a strategy to safeguard know-how and access to handling facilities for breakbulk and project cargo and enables Rickmers-Linie to offer value added services such as packing, storage and other related services at the terminal.

Rickmers-Linie is represented worldwide by sixteen own offices and close to fifty third-party agencies all over the world. Own offices are located in Hamburg, Duesseldorf, Antwerp, Genoa, Mumbai, Singapore, Houston, Shanghai, Beijing, Dalian, Tianjin & Xingang, Qingdao, Urumqi, Tokyo and Seoul.
