Kalmar lands major St Petersburg order
Kalmar Industries has received an order from JSC Sea
Port St Petersburg, Russia, for 24 machines for delivery from May to September
this year. The order comprises 12 forklift trucks with lifting capacities
ranging from 10 to 32 tonnes, eight TRX182 terminal tractors, three
reachstackers and one empty container handler.
JSC Sea Port St Petersburg handled 11.8 million tonnes
of cargoes in 2006, comprising metals, coal, chemical, timber and containers.
The terminal operator has worked with Kalmar for more than 30 years. At
present, it relies on more than 80 Kalmar machines to perform day-to-day
handling duties. These include forklift trucks with handling capacities of up
to 42 tonnes, reachstackers and terminal tractors.
The latest forklift trucks on order will replace some
older equipment and will be used for handling steel, aluminium products and
containers. The remaining equipment will be largely engaged in handling the
growing number of containers handled at the port.
Commenting on the latest orders, Esko Pystynen,
Managing Director of Kalmar Russia, said:
"The Port of St Petersburg is the largest
port in Northwest Russia and a strategic gateway for the country's trade with
Western Europe. As such, it is an important market for Kalmar products and I am
pleased to say that Kalmar's machines have helped to power this thriving
gateway facility for many years.
"We are very grateful that our partners at
JSC Sea Port St Petersburg wish to continue business relations with Kalmar in
the ongoing development of their handling capabilities."
