Kalmar nabs a 247-terminal tractor order from PSA
Singapore Terminals
Kalmar Industries has been awarded a record order of
247 terminal tractors from PSA Singapore Terminals, the world's largest
container transhipment hub which handled 22.3 million TEUs (twenty-foot
equivalent units) of containers in 2005. Kalmar will start to deliver the
tractors to PSA Singapore Terminals in July 2007 and complete delivery by the
end of the year. Kalmar South East Asia will provide continuous support for
parts and service to the customer.
Mr Leif Wallin, president Kalmar Trailer
Handling, says: "Kalmar is extremely pleased to be partnering with PSA on such
a high volume order. Kalmar's local organization was critical to the customer's
decision and a valuable resource in gaining the order. Close cooperation
between Kalmar factories in the USA and China will also play a vital role in
our ability to supply the machines built to the customer's specifications and
in a timely manner."
The Ottawa, Kansas plant in the USA is Kalmar's site
for global terminal tractor development. This facility will complete all of the
design and engineering work for the PSA order. The first few units will also be
manufactured in Kansas, but the majority of the terminal tractors will be
assembled at the Kalmar Shanghai facility. Kalmar will help ensure the
efficient delivery of the machines.
