DCT Gdansk SA named "Best Direct Investor" in Poland
DCT Gdansk SA, developer of Poland's newest deepwater
port facility, has been named "Best Direct Investor" in Poland at the British
Polish Chamber of Commerce (BPCC) Company of the Year Awards 2007. DCT Gdansk's
CEO, Colin Chanter, accepted the award from Martin Oxley, CEO of the BPCC, at
the Novotel Warsaw hotel on Monday 23 April.
Presented on the basis of the value of direct
investment made in Poland between 1 March 2006 and 28 February 2007, the award
also takes into account performance indicators such as R&D investment,
social and corporate responsibility, employee development and training, and
environmental initiatives. The investment in DCT Gdansk, valued at EUR 180
million, is by far the biggest investment in Poland's maritime infrastructure
in recent years.
DCT Gdansk SA is in the latter stages of constructing
Poland's newest deepsea container facility, located on the shores of the Baltic
Sea and providing a vital trade gateway to and from Central and Eastern Europe
and a potential market of 300 million consumers. Phase One of the facility will
see construction of a 36ha modern container terminal along a 650m berth
equipped with three post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes and five rubber-tyred
gantry cranes.
Construction of Phase One of the terminal began in
October 2005 with completion due by October this year, although it will
commence operations sooner than that, with its first vessel expected on 1 June
2007.
Commenting on the award, Mr Chanter said: "It
is gratifying to receive such welcome recognition of our commitment to Gdansk -
and indeed Poland - a whole month before our container terminal handles its
first ship.
"With the invaluable assistance of our
friends at the Port Authority of Gdansk, we are proud to be playing such an
important role in facilitating Poland's increasing trade with the rest of the
world."
DCT Gdansk SA currently employs more than 70 people,
the majority of whom are from the local Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot "tri-city" area
along Poland's Baltic coastline.
