"Scandinavian Initiative" theme for Coastlink
conference 2008
Coastlink, the forum for shortsea shipping, will be
addressing key themes important to the Nordic and Baltic areas at this year's
annual conference in Gothenburg.
Dubbed the "Scandinavian Initiative," the conference
will focus on subjects including feeder networks in northern Europe; reducing
shipping bottlenecks across the continent; and the impact of the surge in fuel
costs on the industry.
Speakers already confirmed include Magnus Karestedt,
Managing Director of the Port of Gothenburg, Unifeeder director Erik Petersen,
Ian Adams, Secretary General of the International Bunker Industry Association;
Professor Thomas Pawlik of Kiel's University of Applied Sciences; and
Masterfood's Filip Beckers, who is also Chairman of the Maritime Council of the
European Shippers Council. Other shippers participating include Lego, Arla
Foods, Stora Enso, Komatsu Europe and Volvo Logistics while carriers
represented on the platform include Samskip and OPDR.
Gavin Roser, deputy chairman of Coastlink, said: "This
year's conference has a high level of shippers participating together with an
excellent cross section of the shipping and port communities.
"Last year's event in Ireland produced the successful
'Dublin Declaration' which highlighted key issues on modal change, peak period
demand, frequency of shortsea and feeder services and congestion. The
'Scandinavian Initiative' will address whether feeder services can be made more
cost effective; is cost the main driver in choice of transport modes; and how
the industry is managing change."
The two-day event is being staged at the Malmsten Hall
of Goteborg University School of Business and Economics, Gothenburg, on 3rd and
4th September 2008. Delegates should visit
